1990 Toyota Celica Shifting problem?

i just bought a 1990 Toyota Celica automatic and just today when i got to 40mph it seems to have a hard time changing gears....Is there a problem with the transmission or is the car just dirty? the transmission fluid needs to be changed pretty bad and i was going to go have that done on Friday...? So is it something i should be worried about? Im sad :(
