What can I use to clean my carpets?

I have a Bissel power force rug scrubber. I want to scrub my carpets before Thanksgiving. I have 3 dogs so I want something to make the house smell nice. I hate spending 20-30 bucks on industrial cleaners, so any home remedies are welcome!
